RIFLE. Cal. 308 Win. S# 273317. Bbl. full floating 27 5/8" target with beveled target crown; drilled and tapped (6-48) for target blocks at muzzle and at rear. Mfg. 1960's to 1970's by S&L using surplus military actions; usually Model 98's, but this is from a Model 96. Actions had military markings removed by S&L with new numbers applied; matching numbered bolt and release retaining charging slots plus thumb slot. Latest example by S&L with altered bolt handle for its screw on large black target knob. Bolt shroud altered to remove military safety as the adjustable Parker Hale trigger incorporates a sliding thumb safety. Most Model 69's were in 6.5X55 Swedish Mauser caliber; references list other caliber as 7.62X51 NATO, yet barrel marked "308 WIN.". Stocks made by Otterup had pronounced pistol grips, rubber buttpads and wide, flat bottomed forends with rail like this one that also has an adjustable comb. Uniquely shaped stock to have slight concave shape to right side of butt and extra depth at magazine area with an ingenious removable decorative walnut cover secured with a simple leaf spring. Receiver bridges drilled and tapped (6-48 front and 8-40 rear) for bases allowing for proper 7.2" spaced target scope blocks. Barrel markings indicate Norma of Springfield, MO as the importer, S&L Otterup marks and 86 date. Stock is satin oil finished and glass bedded in action area. CONDITION: an occasional very faint handling mark, but overall close to excellent with near excellent bore. (25-3318/NW). MODERN. $650-900.
