RIFLE. Cal. 577. NSN. 49” Overall with a 33” standard configuration, iron mounted, round barrel with British army “broad arrow” and other proofs at breech, standard long range Enfield ladder sight in addition to 29” 3/4" diameter sighting tube with cross hairs, no lenses, tiny peep hole at ocular end, windage & elevation adjustments mounted on wrist. Lock has “VR” cypher & crown & “1860 / ENFIELD” and broad arrow proofed. Stock has storekeeper marks and broad arrow proof along with spurious “JS/(anchor)” stamped forward of trigger guard. CONDITION: good overall, complete, and original included “broad arrow” proofed bent ramrod with threading removed and both sling swivels. The “scope” was later addition, the hammer was altered “bent out” as to be able to be cocked free of tube; tube was bent in so spur could strike nipple freely. Markings in metal are good, stock markings worn and only partially discernible. Mechanically functionable, pitted dirty rifled bore. (01-21528/JS) ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
