SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 38-55 WCF. S# 6579. Bbl. 30" octagon to rnd. of No. 3 weight. Gold finished combination front sight, sporting rear sight, with mid-range Vernier tang sight. Blue finish with case colored action. Ebony tipped schnabel forearm and straight grip walnut stock, with crescent steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum record stating Date in: 12-24-1886/ Type: Rifle/ Caliber: 38-55/ Barrel #3, 1/2 Octagon, 30"/ Trigger: Plain", as well as "Date Shipped: 5-18-1887/ Order #: 18492". This example is also accompanied by a handwritten note denoting that this rifle was passed down through a single family. CONDITION: 40% dull thinning bbl. blue, showing spots of surface corrosion. Action retains some visible case colors on left side of receiver and in protected areas, with scattered spots of dark surface corrosion. Original wood finish shows light wear, with scratches and marks. Sound action. Bright bore has lightly worn rifling. (01-27180/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,750.
