NATIONALE HIGH POWER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 1389. Bbl. 4 5/8". High Power semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Fabrique Nationale under contract for El Salvador. Accompanying documentation from Charles Wagner indicates that this is 1 only of 2 El Salvador contract High Power pistols believed to be in the United States, believed to be from a contract of 500 (circa. 1950s), beginning with S# 1001. The left side of the slide is marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE/ HERSTAL BELGIQUE/ BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE", with the top of the slide featuring El Salvador's crest, followed by "PROPIEDAD DEL GOBIERNO DE EL SALVADOR" (PROPERTY OF THE GOVERNMENT OF EL SALVADOR) across the top. Left side of the frame and slide, as well as the right side of the bbl., exhibit Belgian commercial proofs. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bbl., which is in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, which feature red anti-moisture barrier paint on the interior of the panels. Thumbprint sight features a fixed half-moon blade front sight, with a dovetailed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: 1 blued 13-rd. mag., with black enamel finished button type follower. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: page of notes from Charles Wagner, detailing the history and rarity of this variation. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some light wear and thinning on edges and some scattered superficial handling marks, with scattered spots of light to mild pitting present primarily on the top and sides of the slide. Frame exhibits scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting on the grip straps, with an area of mild pitting present on the front of the trigger guard bow. Mirror bore, exhibiting some spots of hardened grease, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good overall, showing some light smoothing to the checkering. A seldom encountered El Salvador contract High Power pistol, befitting of an advanced High Power collection. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-397/MLW). CURIO. $4,500-5,500.
