ORDNANCE SIDEPLATE. Cal. 308. S#. AC004. Bbl. 24". There aren't many firearms from the military past of the United States that are as recognizable as the rectangular receiver & perforated barrel shroud of the Browning model 1919. In order to own a legal machine gun there are fees & a fairly lengthy amount of paperwork that aren't necessary for traditional, Title I firearms like hunting & target rifles. This particular Browning sideplate was manufactured by Ohio Ordnance Works & based on the war proven, original, as a functional semi auto only. This gives you the opportunity to own such an exciting piece of history w/ out the extra time & expense. This firearm transfers just like any other semi auto firearm. Rear of the iconic, circular vented barrel shroud is the front sight, a folding post, w/ an elevation adjustable ladder rear sight, marked out to 1500 yards. It may be fired utilizing a 1919A6 style bipod (not included) or mounted to a tripod w/ a proper cradle assembly. It currently appears to be chambered in 7.62 NATO w/ the proper bolt & bbl. assembly. Common chamberings for this system can include 7.62 NATO, 8 mm Mauser & U.S. 30-06. Parkerized finish on all exposed metal surfaces, aside from the right sideplate, which is unfinished.. Right sideplate markings include: "BROWNING GUN./ SELF LOADING MODEL M1919 A4 / U.S. CALIBER 30 / MFG'D BY OHIO ORDNANCE WORKS / CHARDON, OHIO / S/N AC004". Original parts kit of unknown origin though several parts include Israeli markings which would be common for military .308 chambered military surplus parts. CONDITION: Finish appears original on all parts, retaining complete coverage, aside from right sideplate, which is still unfinished. Everything appears functional & correct though unable to confirm through live fire exercises. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-90/JZ). MODERN. $2,000-$3,000.
