SCABBARDS. Scabbards are similar to the Model 1918, except for the guide made to accommodate the M1 Garand charging handle. These scabbards were originally intended for cavalry use, but were used to carry rifles on jeeps, trucks, motorcycles, etc. as well. Scabbards are all of heavy brown leather construction. No.1: Scabbard marked "U.S. / LYON & COULSON / 1942". Scabbard has early production leather guide w/ steel strap. Attaching strap loops are present. CONDITION: scabbard has moderate wear & staining. Stitching remains tight. Brass fasteners have verdigris. / No.2: Scabbard is marked "US / J. & M.D. / 1942 / J.D.". Brass guide. Attaching loops are present. CONDITION: scabbard has wear, staining & flexing. Brass guide has turned a dark patina w/ wear. Stitching remains tight. Scabbard appears serviceable. / No.3: Scabbard is marked "U.S. / ?? & HOPKINS LEATHER CO. / 1942". Brown painted steel guide. Attaching loops are present. Leather retaining strap is present in the loops. Strap w/ brass buckle appears unmarked. CONDITION: scabbard has wear & staining, but retains tight stitching. Brown paint has thinning & flaking. Attaching strap has wear & flexing. / No.4: Scabbard is marked "U.S. / BOYT / 42". Steel guide. Attaching loops are present. CONDITION: scabbard has good appearance w/ moderate wear. Guide has thinning & wear of its original black finish. Stitching is tight. / No.5: Scabbard is marked "US / J.Q.M.D. / 1942 / J.B.". Brown finished steel guide. Attaching loops are present. CONDITION: scabbard has moderate wear & staining. Guide has thinning & wear. Stitching remains tight. / No.6: Scabbard is marked "U.S. / HOTZE / 1942". Attaching loops are present. Dull finished steel guide. CONDITION: scabbard has moderate wear & scuffing, retaining tight stitching. Guide has thinning & light oxidation. / No.7: Scabbard is marked "US / J.C.M.D. / 1942 / J.D.". Copper washed steel guide. Attaching loops are present. CONDITION: scabbard has wear & scuffing. Stitching remains tight. Guide has moderate wear w/ verdigris. (02-24590-40/RW). NON-GUN. $600-900.
