SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 50-90. S# 37082. Bbl. 30", extra heavy, measuring 1 7/32" across the flats at muzzle. Bbl. is marked "Old Reliable." It was originally a model 1859 military arm. This and many other surplus Civil War Sharps rifles were converted to cartridge firearms during the Buffalo hunting period by Meacham and other gunsmiths. The rifle lock retains its pellet primer feed mechanism. The original stock is fitted with a carbine buttplate, an iron patchbox, and an inletted rear swivel base. The left ear of the stock has three clear military cartouches. The rifle is fitted with double-set triggers. While frequently seen on model 1874s and conversion rifles, the only military Sharps with double-set triggers were those made for Colonel Hiram Berdan's U.S. Sharpshooters. German silver blade rocky mountain front sight. Lawrence has a patent rear sight. A replacement walnut forearm is made to fit the heavy bbl. WEIGHT: 15 lbs, 4.2 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a binder of information about Sharps rifles with photographs of this rifle. CONDITION: metal has faded to a brown patina, showing spots of corrosion and handling marks. The wood has a worn finish, showing dents, scratches, and marks. Sound action with functioning triggers. Bore retains sound rifling. (01-24579/DS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
