SHOT. Cal. 40 2 5/8’’ (40-90). S# 155251. Bbl. 30’’ heavy octagon measuring 1’’ across flats at muzzle. Top flat is marked “Old Reliable” w/ single line Bridgeport address. Sporting front sight has replacement brass blade. Fixed V notch rear sight using altered Lawrence patent base. Model 1874 cartridge action w/ double set triggers. 2 screw walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ steel buttplate. Introduced in 1871, the model 1874 is the rifle most closely associated w/ the Buffalo hunting era. WEIGHT: 12 lbs, 3.6 ozs. CONDITION: bbl. finish has faded to a dark brown patina. Action has a mottled gray brown appearance w/ spots of corrosion. Wood shows heavy wear & handling marks. Forearm is missing large chips along both sides of the bbl. channel w/ a crack extending from the action. Stock has chips & small cracks around the action w/ 2 nails making a repair of a crack at toe. Sound action & triggers.
