Cal. 40 2 1/2’’ straight. S# 99565. Bbl. 30’’ heavy octagon measuring 1’’ across flats at muzzle. Top flat is marked “Old Reliable” followed by 1 line Bridgeport address. Rocky mountain style German silver blade front sight w/ Lawrence patent graduated leaf rear sight. Conversion carbine action has 1848 date on left side. 1852 dated lock has been ground to model 1874 style. Cartridge conversion breech block & hammer. Double set triggers. Walnut forearm. Original straight grip stock w/ steel carbine buttplate. Post civil war Sharps conversions are often associated w/ Buffalo hunting in the American west. WEIGHT: 11 lbs, 5.8 ozs. CONDITION: metal has faded to light gray patina showing small dents & marks. Refinished forearm shows heavy wear w/ an added wood repair along right bbl. channel. Refinished stock has large crack extending from buttplate. Sound action & trigger. Bbl. has slightly darkened appearance & retains strong rifling. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
