Cal. 52. S# 21740. Bbl. 28’’ heavy octagon measuring 1’’ across flats at muzzle. Top flat has 3 line Hartford address. German silver blade front sight w/ Lawrence patent leaf rear sight. Slant breech action w/ plain single trigger. 1852 dated lock has pellet primer feed mechanism. Top tang has 3 line patent marking w/ 1848 address. Walnut forearm w/ pewter tip. Straight grip stock w/ brass buttplate & brass rectangular lid patchbox. Total of 2,970 mfg. July 1854 to December 1859. WEIGHT: 9 lbs, 12 ozs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: spare sear & nipple held in patchbox. CONDITION: good. Original bbl. blue has faded to a dark patina showing freckling & edge wear. Action has a brown patina appearance showing small dents. Stocks are sanded & refinished. Forearm has a long added wood repair along left bbl. channel w/ crack extending from action on right side. Stock shows dents & marks w/ a repaired crack at toe. Sound action. Dark bore shows scattered light pitting & retains sound rifling. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
