UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Sharps factory letter from Dr. Richard J. It is listed in their Order Book as a Army Rifle, later termed the Model 1874 Military Rifle and was invoiced at the Hartford factory on June 6, 1873 to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, gun, military and sporting goods dealers of New York City. The rifle is described in the record only as being .50 caliber, meaning the .50 caliber, 1 & 7/8 inch Berdan-primed shell, the standard military rifle and carbine round for both converted and newly manufactured guns at this time. The order to the Schuyler, Hartley & Graham firm on this date consisted of 500 Army Rifles, priced at $16 each net. This $9000 order constituted the largest order for guns in number and value, ever shipped from the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company or its successor company.".
