Cal. 45, 2 7/8" Sharps Straight. S# 160055. Bbl. 28" rnd. with Bridgeport address. Top of bbl. ahead of breech is marked "CAL 45". Left side of bbl. is marked "BUSINESS 45". German silver blade front sight with Lawrence patent rear sight. Top tang has plug screws in 2 holes for tang sight attachment. Blue finished bbl. with case colored action. Plain trigger. Walnut forearm and straight grip stock with steel rifle buttplate and rear sling swivel. Weight: 10lbs. 5.8oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: includes a Sharps Rifle Company letter with contradictory information, stating "Sharps rifle serial #160055 has been located in the original records of the Sharps Rifle Company. It is listed in Order Book No. 3 as a Model 1874 Business Rifle and was invoiced at the Bridgeport factory on March 19, 1877 to John P. Lower, gun and sporting goods dealer of Denver, Colorado. The rifle is further described in the record as being .45 caliber, using the 2 & 7/8 inch shell, with a 30 inch full octagon barrel, double triggers, open sights, and oil-finished stocks. The weight was 11 pounds 14 ounces. The price was $42 less 25%.". CONDITION: bbl. retains 80% lightly faded blue showing spots of light pitting and handling marks with a single wrench mark on the right side of the bbl. behind the front sight. Action has gray/brown appearance showing dents and marks with file marks at top of action showing evidence of aggressive cleaning. Left side of action at and above the lever pin shows small cracks. Heavily sanded and refinished wood shows scattered marks. Lightly pitted bore retains sound rifling. (01-27582/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,000.
