Cal. 40. S# 155051. Bbl 30". The full-length heavy octagonal barrel is stamped "SHARPS RIFLE CO HARTFORD CONN" over the top flat, with "CALIBRE 40" stamped towards the breech. Rear sight base is stamped "R.S. LAWRENCE/ PATENTED/ FEB. 15TH 1859.". Left side of the receiver is stamped "SHARPS RIFLE CO/ PAT APR 6 1869". Case-color hardened frame, lever, and hammer, with a blued barrel and sights. Nitre blued screws with nickel-plated crescent buttplate, nosecap, and double-set triggers. Smooth wood straight comb buttstock with smooth wood forend. Globe front sight with flip-up ladder rear sight. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory-applied finishes overall, exhibiting few mild superficial marks from handling and storage overall. The forend nose cap is cracked on the right side but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage. A very attractive contemporary-production Sharps Model 1874 single-shot rifle. (23-6969/MLW).
