88TH PENNSYLVANIA INFANTRY, CAPTURED AT GETTYSBURG & ESCAPED LIBBY PRISON. 14” overall, 9” double edged blade marked “WILSON SWIFT / BROAD ST / SHEFFIELD” and large “DCL” in same style seen on Wostenholm’s “IXL”, horn slab grips, Mexican eagle stamped pommel, German silver mounted gold embossed leather sheath. This knife was part of a very large archive containing diaries, letters, Libby prison memorabilia, and more. Everything was in wonderful condition including this knife which Bill Adams purchased about 40 years ago from Stone Mountain Relics. This knife is pictured and described on pages 191-192 up his 1990 book: “The Antique Bowie Knife Book”. CONDITION: very good-fine overall, blade retains most of its original polish and luster, staining, point slightly rounded and sharpened, Sheath is very good, bend at tip, scuffing, missing frog button.
