RIFLE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 15731. Bbl. 24". Rifle has been shortened by cutting the barrel back 6", shortening the forend & repositioning the upper band and front sight. This conversion was likely executed by a dealer in surplus firearms to make a more serviceable and handy rifle for schools & military academies. Receiver is marked "1894". Rifle has the 1896 ladder rear sight graduated to 1,800 yards. Sight slide is secured by a binding screw. Blade front sight. Sight appears to be shop-fabricated & is attached by solder. Muzzle is neatly crowned. Walnut stock set. Stock has a partially legible boxed "JSA" acceptance mark & faint circled "P" proof under grip. Smooth trap buttplate w/ curved toe. Forend tip has walnut filler in the lightening cut. Filler is not correctly fitted & is loose. CONDITION: stock set has wear, scratches & handling marks throughout w/ added finish. Metal is turning overall gray & patina w/ wear. Bolt parts have enhanced fire blue. Bore is shiny, but w/ worn lands. (01-27350/RW). ANTIQUE. $700-1,100.
