BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 4782. Bbl. 24 1/4" with Williams Streamline ramp grooved for hood having Winchester style dovetailed silver bead sight. Right rear of action has vintage steel Lyman 57SME receiver sight with Williams Twilight aperture. "MORRISON / BANGOR, MAINE" barrel markings along with his circled "P" proof and "45-70"; Carl "Bill" Morrison was Maine's premiere gunsmith for many years who worked up into his early 90's. Type 46 action made in Japan by Tokyo Arsenal within second batch of 20,000 rifles for Siam having "R.S. 121" front receiver markings plus "21503" serial number on rear bridge (both Siamese translated). US applied serial number of 4782 is on bottom of action behind recoil lug. Left side of receiver has Tokyo stacked cannon ball proof as used prior to 1936. Basic Mauser Model 98 design with 3 position safety on bolt shroud and hinged floorplate; originally had dust cover as used on Japanese Arisaka rifles. Standard 2 stage military trigger. Nicely figured walnut stock with raised cheekpiece having a European flair. Multi point cut checkering with wrap around pattern on forend; two panel in grip area. Pachmayr White Line brown ventilated recoil pad. CONDITION: high gloss bluing is near excellent except for spot of loss on bottom of barrel near muzzle. Very minimal extremely faint stock handling marks; aged recoil pad is stiff at recoil absorption areas. Bright near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: From the Lifetime Collection of Malcolm Zickler, Ret.
