MOORISH BARREL CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION. Cal. 50. S# NSN. During the 18th Century barrels made in southern Spain or other Morrish lands were recognized as being the finest available. This well made pistol has 11-3/4" tapered round damascus barrel exhibiting very fine figure. Barrel has been meticulously filed with top rib and silver inlaid with Arabesque patterns at rear and scrolled and dotted decoration along rib. Flint lock with chamfered plate and rebated tail has been converted to percussion with bolster and flat faced hammer. Trigger is set. Dense walnut stock extends to muzzle with horn tip and is pinned to barrel. Stock is silver mounted with unengraved grip cap which has side spurs. A grotesque face is on bottom. Pierced side plate is relief cast with scrolling acanthus and floral highlights. Trigger guard has foliate finial. A crowned silver crest plate is at top of grip. Walnut ramrod mounts through single beaded pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: good. Barrel shows cleaning to silver gray over some very light pitting but retains nearly all filed and inlaid detail. Lock is cleaned to silver with some brown staining. Stock shows oil refinish with some loss of detail but is sound, with few flaws except some light checks on right side of barrel channel. Silver once cleaned bright is toning. Bore is lightly pitted. Mechanically good. Set trigger working. (01-26002/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
