FLINTLOCK QUEEN ANNE BOXLOCK PISTOLS BY GANDON OF LONDON. Cal. 64. S# NSN. Made Ca. 1720 by one of two Peter Gandon's listed (father & son). These attractive pistols have 6-1/4" turn off cannon barrels that are unmarked. Boxlock breech sections have serpentine cocks on left sides, along with back mounted feather springs, semi-waterproof pans and bridled frizzens. Actions are engraved with floral sprays, "Gandon London" is on right sides under feather springs. Ball grips made of dense European walnut have relief carving around barrel tangs and are silver mounted. Mounts are not hallmarked and consist of classic grotesque face grip caps, running animal form sideplates with foliate finials and crest plates at tops of grips engraved with standing stags. CONDITION: good. Metal cleaned to silver with brown highlights on barrels. Wood show considerable wear but is sound. Silver is somewhat rubbed. Bores are dark; lightly pitted. Mechanically good without noted repairs or replaced parts. Trigger guard finial on one pistol broken off. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27547/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
