1849 POCKET MODEL REVOLVER, LISTED BY SERIAL NUMBER IN GUSTAVE YOUNG LEDGER, 1854. Cal. 31. S# 86269. This beautiful silver plated 5 inch pocket model is listed by serial number in Gustave Young's Ledger which is institutionalized at the Raymond Baldwin museum in Hartford. R.L Wilson in his text "The Colt Engraving Book" states there are very few serial numbers known of the approximate 250 numbers listed in the Gustave Young ledgers. The finest scroll engraving is full coverage on both sides a frame, barrel lug, loading arm pivot, and hammer. Backstrap has full coverage on butt and half of backstrap. Trigger guard is engraved on bottom of bow, each serial number is frame engraved. Scrolls terminate into animal heads & flowers. "Sam'l Colt" engraved on top of barrel & "COLTS PATENT" on the left side of frame. Every screw head is original with engraved design. Pistol is housed in compartmented Colt green velvet lined walnut casing with two-sided eagle flask, COLT PATENT two-cavity brass mold, ELY cap tin, Pack of five combustible cartridges, and loose rounds. This is a very attractive uncleaned dark gun with well discerned crisp engraving and cylinder scene. CONDITION: fine overall, all original and matching, 95% silver plating remains, date plating applied unknown, but engraving still crisp and cylinder scene is all discernible. All 5 safety pins are crisp and functional. Mechanically fine with crisp shiny rifled bore. Grips are well fit with smooth aged ivory patina. Accompanying casing is very good, mold and flask are replated silver. PROVENANCE: Bill Sisney 1998, Collection of Horst Kreiner. (01-23985/JS). $6,000-8,000.
