Cal. 69. NSN. Indistinguishable from North model 1813 army contract pistols other than 7” belt hook. Both are very scarce in original flint. New specifications for US military 1816 pistols reducing caliber from .69 to .54 left North with hundreds of proofed & inspected barrels for army, so enterprising Simeon North made contract with navy for purchase of 1000 guns that were delivered November 16, 1816. Some early texts refer to these as 1816 navy contract but not the case. This pistol conforms to 1813 with 9” barrel proofed “P / US” at breech, “HHP” (Henry H. Perkin) above touch hole. Flat beveled lock with unmarked tail, brass pan, “S NORTH / US / MIDDLN CON” with eagle. Stock inspected behind “ET” (Elisha Tobey), Wickham improved barrel band. CONDITION: very good overall, metal gray with staining and light pitting, stock sound with small putty repair rear of lock. (01-21492/JS). $4,000-6,000.
