This hat has a letter from Les Jensen stating his opinion of it being of Civil War era. There is no other documentation other than it was in old collection many years. Black wool felt is typical of Civil war hats and at least similar to the one on cover of North South Trader’s Civil War magazine December 1991 with article by Bob McDonald and Confederate slouch hats. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of Dec. 1991 NST article on Confederate slouch hats and original 2013 Les Jensen report with detailed photographs. CONDITION: fair-good overall, hat is soiled with some stiffness but more supple than normally seen on Civil War hats. Button originally attached with leather thong which is now rotted but still present not attaching button which is done by few sewn stitches. There is about 8” of a wide painted canvas sweat band that has come loose but still with hat. Interested parties, read report and article attached online. (02-17415/JS). $800-1,200.
