PARKS, 69TH US COLORED TROOPS.
Cal. 32, S# 21487. This well used "as found" Smith & Wesson revolver left the factory in mid 1864, Charles T. Parks had just mustered in as captain of Company C, 69th United States Colored Troops on October 24, 1864. His previous service had been with the 117 Illinois infantry from September of 1862 where he rose to the rank of sergeant. The 69th Colored Infantry was stationed in the same theater of war that Parks had just left in Eastern Arkansas. This unremarkable, well used revolver is featured in a four-page September 2001 Gun Report article where author Mike Bricker gives a couple theories of this revolver's origin. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: large file of research, copy of September 2001 Gun Report article. CONDITION: good overall, great metal with pitting, large piece of left grip is broken off and has been for a long time based on the matching patina to metal and well patinated exposed wood. Revolver will not hold full cock, otherwise mechanics are good, discernible rifled bore. The stamped name on the left side of barrel housing is discernible but light. PROVENANCE: Lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-25011/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
