Cal. 38 Spl. S# 510713. Bbl. 6" with pinned Patridge blade front sight plus adjustible, frame-contoured rear sight. Scarce 4th Variation Target model manufactured 1915-1942 having serrated grip straps (initiated 1923). Square butt configured (standard models were round butts) having correct diamond center checkered walnut grips without medallions (no serial numbers on backs). Two-line S&W barrel address with patent dates on top plus "SMITH & WESSON" on the left side and caliber designation on the right side. S&W logo on left side of frame below cylinder release plus "MADE IN USA" on lower right front. Case-colored, checkered hammer and serrated-faced trigger (smooth-faced on standard models); both .265" wide. Matching serial numbers on barrel, extractor, and cylinder. CONDITION: very good to excellent appearing with factory quality refinish having muzzle thinning plus sharp edge wear consistent with light use and holstering. Very good grips with light hand wear and slight butt marks to include a small, shallow hole on each. Near excellent bore. Timing slightly off on one chamber. Trigger engagement allows release with forward thumb pressure on hammer; needs trigger replaced or its nose reshaped. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Gun Sport Ltd., owned by Jon R. Thomas.
