Cal. .320 S&W. S# 255. Bbl. 6”. Mfg. 1879–1877; s# 1-977. Standard features include mottled brown checkered hard rubber S & W logo grips & blued finish. Correct shoulder stock assembly w/ stem mounted peep sight & black checkered hard rubber S & W logo buttplate. Original 16”, 18” or 20” shortened to 6” having rear sight dovetail filled w/ section of rib leaving “Smith & Wesson” & portion of patent legend. Muzzle end of bbl. has remaining legend of patent dates & dovetail mounted base w/ silver blade. Standard rounded bbl. crown. Matching numbered cyl. & bbl. latch. Bottom of bbl. w/out provision for forend attachment. Base of design originated from New Model No. 3 revolver. CONDITION: about good overall appearance having original finish w/ light gray patina in grip area plus light brown patina tone on cyl. Peppery cleaned oxidation throughout w/ some areas having a mottled appearance. Right & bottom of bbl. near lug has scratches & or file marks. Proper mechanical functioning w/ good timing & tight lock up. Stock assembly has numerous light handling marks & appearance of extra finish. Noticeable thinning loss on tangs. Attachment iron w/ original finish mixed w/ mottled appearance made up of patina, pinprick oxidation & impact marks on lower right. Light impact marks near base of peep sight stem. Fair to good bore w/ strong rifling & areas of cleaned light pitting. (01-17361/NW). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
