REVOLVER. Cal. 32 S&W Long RF. S# 62626. Bbl. 5", octagon with rib and nickel-finished semi-circular front sight. Six-shot round cyl. Tip-up action with a spur trigger. Frame, cyl., and bbl. flats have generous coverage of arabesque scroll aftermarket hand engraving. S&W distributors of the period typically had guns upgraded by New York-based engravers to satisfy special orders. Two-piece ivory grips were added at the time of engraving. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: S&W Historical Foundation letter signed by Roy G. Jinks detailing the following information: "We have researched your Smith & Wesson Model 2 Army, caliber .32 Rim Fire Long. Company records indicate that this handgun, serial number 62626, was probably shipped from the factory on August 21, 1868, and delivered to John P. Lovell & Sons, Boston, Ma. This revolver was shipped with a 5-inch barrel, a blue finish, and smooth rosewood grips. This shipment was for 300 units. The engraving and ivory grips were added after the revolver was shipped.". Proper style two-piece box in fair condition. CONDITION: dull, lightly faded, reblued finish as applied after the engraving. Blue shows edge wear and small marks. Ivory grips have age-related checking and are acquiring an intermittent yellow coloring. Bore is bright with sound rifling. Sound action. (01-24421/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,000.
