ENGRAVED SA REVOLVER. Cal. 32 RF short. S# 4655. Bbl. 3 1/2", octagon with rib and German silver semi-circular sight. Five-shot round cyl. Tip-up action with a spur trigger. Action, cyl., and bbl. have 75% coverage of vine-type foliate scroll hand engraving. 2 pieces of pearl grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: S&W Historical Foundation letter signed by Roy G. Jinks detailing the following information: "We have searched your Smith & Wesson Model 1 1/2 First Issue, caliber .32 Rim Fire Short. Company records indicate that this handgun, serial number 4655, was probably shipped from the factory on September 4, 1865, and delivered to J. W. Storrs Co., New York, NY, Smith & Wesson's sole agent from 1857 to 1869. The records indicate that this revolver was shipped with a 3.5-inch barrel, a blue finish, and smooth rosewood grips. This shipment was for 200 units. Mr. Storrs Company probably added engraving and pearl grips to fill a special order. This was the common practice in the mid-1860s.". CONDITION: metal has faded to a dark brown patina. Grips show small chips and spots of staining. The pitted bore retains intact rifling. Sound action. (01-24422/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
