Cal. 38 S&W. S# 3785. Bbl. 3 1/4". Round blade front sight. V-notch rear sight. Very early Second Model 38 revolver. Matching numbers on frame, top strap & cyl. Blued finish with case colored trigger & hammer. Checkered mottled black & red hard rubber grips with S&W logo. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct factory box that appears to be numbered to a different gun & factory letter. Factory letter confirms guns configuration & states that it was shipped on April 3, 1880 to M.W. Robinson in New York City. The letter further states that it was previously thought the Second Model production began around 4000 but the actual production began slightly below 4000. CONDITION: grips show overall checkering wear, some handling marks & a crack at bottom of right panel. Trigger & hammer retain strong traces of their case colors with overall fading & some oxidation spots. Balance of metal retains 30% original blue with overall fading to gray & some scattered light pitting & oxidation. Action is a bit sluggish but functional when hand cycled. Very good bore w/ some light oxidation but strong rifling. (01-25844/MJC). ANTIQUE. $1200-1800.
