SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 577/450. S# SA1949S. Bbl. 33 1/4". Blade front sight. Ladder rear sight. Scarce South Australian issue Martini Henry MKII rifle. The South Australian police purchased a small number of these rifles & only 293 were imported into the US by Western Arms in 1953. Right side of Action has Enfield & II markings with 1878 date. In addition action has broad arrow over "SA/1949/S" denoting South Australian issue. Other parts have typical British military proofs. Arsenal blue finish. Walnut stock set with faint Enfield roundel, Broad Arrows & "II/1" marking. Bottom mounted sling swivels & ramrod present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1888 dated P1876 bayonet with leather scabbard. CONDITION: stock set has added finish with large 9" repair to break in comb, a notable chip at toe, a few other smaller chips, scattered small gouges, dings, handling marks & worn finish. Metal retains 30% arsenal rework blue with overall fading to gray, scattered oxidation, handling marks, edge wear & wood finish overrun. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation & dried grease but evident rifling. (01-26317/MJC). ANTIQUE. $800-1200.
