JACKET. The jacket is made of blue/gray wool fabric with 8 buttons down the front and 2 buttons on each sleeve. The buttons are Civil War period manufactured by Van Wart Son & Co. of Birmingham, England. Van Wart manufactured buttons for the Confederacy, but most of the South Carolina & Georgia buttons did not reach the Confederacy in time to be utilized during the war. The collar & cuffs are trimmed in black cord, and there is no decoration on the rear of the coat. Interestingly, the button holes are hand-sewn. The liner is tan cotton and quilted on both sides. The sleeves are lined in the same tan cotton material. There is a number in the interior back near the collar, “1905”. CONDITION: coat shows minor moth damage. The interior has some staining. Overall, the coat is quite solid. (02-20125/BF). $600-900.
