RIFLE. Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 581a. Bbl. 23 1/2" with TGI import marking. Blade front sight without hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Matching Soviet applied numbers on left side of butt, trigger guard, and floorplate. Other parts have mixed numbers. Receiver top has eagle "WaA80" and "dou 43" markings denoting mfg. by Waffen Werke Brunn II in occupied Czechoslovakia in 1943. Soviet arsenal-rework blue finish. laminated stock set with left side sling provisions. Cleaning rod present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1938 Carl Eickhorn S84/98 bayonet with leather frog and unnumbered scabbard. Bayonet and scabbard show scattered oxidation. Frog shows scattered crazing. CONDITION: stock set has Soviet arsenal rework finish with a notable chip above bolt cutout, some light chipping around buttplate, and scattered flaking and handling wear. Bolt body appears in-the-white that is turning gray with scattered oxidation and light pitting. Balance of metal retains 93% of its Soviet arsenal-reworked blue with some edge wear and blued-over oxidation. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Bore has scattered frosting and pitting but strong rifling. (24-4748/MJC). CURIO. $600-900.
