REPEATING RIFLE. Cal. 52-50. S# 23287. After the American Civil War, the United States Ordnance Department released Spencer rifles & carbines to state militias. The territories of Colorado & Arizona are known to have sold hundreds to settlers on the frontier for protection against hostile Native Americans. 500 carbines were released to Colorado Territory on October 16th, 1968. Bbl. 20" round w/ blade front sight & carbine leaf rear sight. Action is fitted w/ the Stabler cut-off. Band fastened forearm & straight grip stock. Tubular mag. inserts through the steel carbine buttplate. Right side of stock has two clear cartouches & is marked "U.S. / COL. TER.". Action has "M", "L" & "C" inspector's initials. CONDITION: metal has faded to a light gray-brown patina, showing small spots of corrosion. Original wood finish shows wear w/ scattered scratches & marks. Sound mechanics. Bore is generally bright w/ strong rifling, showing small spots of pitting. (01-26527/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
