Cal. 56-52. S# 18649. Bbl. 20" with barleycorn front sight and folding leaf rear sight. Front receiver ring is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". Action has the Stabler cutoff, left side has saddle ring and bar. Band fastened walnut forearm. Straight grip stock with 2 visible cartouches on left side. Peak of comb has "GKJ" inspectors mark. 7 Round magazine loads through steel carbine buttplate. Toeline of stock has inletted sling swivel and 2 hand cut notches. Of 34,000 mfg., the US government purchased 30,502. CONDITION: metal has faded to brown patina and is spotted with light surface corrosion. Wood has lightly blistered added finish over wear and handling marks. Stock has small chips around lock plate. Pitted bore retains intact rifling. (01-21647/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,750.
