REPEATING RIFLE. Cal. 56-50. S# 24919. Bbl. 32 1/2" with 3 groove rifling. Barleycorn front sight with graduated leaf rear sight. Front receiver ring is marked "MODEL 1865" followed by "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE / PAT.D MARCH 6, 1860 MANUF'D AT PROV. R.I. / BY BURNSIDE Co." Case colored action is fitted with Stabler cutoff with saddle ring and bar on left side. 2 Band walnut forearm with slotted tip ramrod. Straight grip stock has clear "ESA" Erskin S. Allin cartouche on left side. Stock and front barrel band have original swivels. 7 Round tubular magazine inserts through steel buttplate. Estimated production of 34,000 in 1865, US government purchased over 30,000. CONDITION: very fine. Barrel retains over 90% lightly faded blue showing scattered spots of freckling. Action shows over 70% lightly faded case colors. Original wood finish shows moderate wear with scattered scratches and marks. Stock has a crack extending from buttplate.
