SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. S# 21561. This special shotgun was engraved by master engraver Carlton Ennis for his wife Elaine Bradley Ennis. F grade engraving features scenes of woodcock, pointing dogs & a mallard on the left side w/ partridge, a beagle & running rabbit on the right side. Scenes are surrounded by highlights of vine type foliate scroll w/ balance of the receiver sides being covered by a fine arabesque scroll that extends to the breech end of the bbl. Receiver top has a stippled non-glare finish. Finger groove beavertail forearm & capped pistol grip walnut stock have point pattern hand checkering. LOP: 13" over original Remington buttplate. Bbl. 25" solid rib w/ factory installed alloy cuts compensator & spreader tube. White target front sight w/ steel mid bead. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: hand written letter from Paula Ennis Burns dated September 14th, 2011 detailing the following information, "I am Paula Burns, the only daughter of Carlton (Carl) Ennis of Ilion, N.Y. My father was a master engraver for Remington Arms Company. He engraved a model 17 shotgun, 20 ga, serial number 21561 for a gift for my mother Elaine Bradley Ennis. My mother used the gun to go hunting and shooting at the Ilion fish & game club. I received the gun after her death." CONDITION: gun retains over 90% originally blue showing slide & edge wear. Very good original wood finish shows small scratches & handling marks. Sound mechanics. Very good bright bore. PROVENANCE: The estate collection of Don "Duck" Combs. (24-2499/DS). CURIO. $4,000-8,000.
