RIFLE. Cal. 7.7x58mm Arisaka. S# 53619. Bbl. 26". Type 99 bolt action rifle originally mfg. at the Kokura arsenal and later sporterized. Receiver is marked with Kanji characters denoting the model designation below a ground chrysanthemum over the top of the chamber, with an indeterminate (likely series 21) symbol, followed by the S#, and Kokura arsenal insignia marked on the left. Metal components exhibit a blue finish, with a large area towards the middle of the bbl. exhibiting a reapplied blue finish. Bolt body and handle are in-the-white. Highly embellished aftermarket wood pistol grip buttstock features a carved scene of a buck on the left, with a scene of a rhino on the right. Fajen black polymer buttplate. Standard Type 99 blade front sight and ladder rear sight with provisions for anti-aircraft "wings". Bolt handle has been turned down, with the knob having been replaced by a handmade spoon handle. Bolt and safety knob do not match, but match each other. Firing pin is unnumbered. CONDITION: Metal components retain much of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning, with scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation present overall. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered pitting and fair rifling throughout. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand. Wood stock exhibits scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (24-2369/MLW). $200-400.
