SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 525938. Bbl. 26". Buffington ladder rear sight marked "R". Blade front sight w/ bead profile mounted in a hand forged bbl. band. 1884 dated low arch breech block. Lock plate w/ eagle marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD". One piece trigger guard. Rifle has been sporterized by the removal of the rod bayonet assembly, shortening the bbl. & forend, relocating the upper band & band spring leaving 11 3/8" distance between bbl. bands. Stock has early refinish obscuring original markings. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: combination tool marked "US MOD 1879" located in butt trap. CONDITION: stock has sanding marks w/ wear, scratches & handling marks throughout. Notable crack in wrist behind lockplate. Worn metal is turning gray & patina w/ areas of light oxidation. Mainspring is broken. Lock does not function correctly. Bore is shiny w/ strong lands but has scattered fine pitting throughout. (01-24506/RW). ANTIQUE. $200-400.
