Cal. about 64. NSN. Bbl. 12", round with octagon shank and rifled bore. Integral blade front sight with 2-leaf rear sight graduated to 400 yards. The lockplate is dated "1855" behind the hammer and marked "U.S. Springfield" on the forward portion. The lock is fitted with the Maynard self-priming device. Concave button-tipped iron swivel ramrod. All iron has a bright finish. Walnut stock and detachable shoulder stock of brass fittings. The forearm band and toeline of the stock have sling swivels. Butt cap has a lanyard ring. Total of 4,021 mfg. between 1855 and 1857. CONDITION: good. The metal has a partially cleaned appearance, showing scattered pitting. Cleaned brass is reacquiring a mild patina. Stock has cracks through the wrist area with added wood repair and chips around the lock and band areas. The shoulder stock shows scattered scratches, marks, and small dents. Sound lock. Pitted bore with largely intact rifling. (01-24583/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
