Rebored to 65 cal. NSN. Bbl. 40", round w/ a smooth bore. Barleycorn front sight w/ single leaf rear sight. The US Springfield-marked lock is dated 1864. End of the nipple bolster is stamped "US". The full-length walnut stock has iron fittings and is held by three solid bands. Comb of stock is stamped w/ initials "E.J.L". Leather military sling on original swivels. Tulip-tipped ramrod. Total of 255,040 mfg. 1864-65. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: US-marked triangular socket bayonet. Bayonet is cleaned, showing scattered pitting. CONDITION: bbl. and lock show evidence of heavy cleaning, retaining pitting and handling marks. Markings are weakened. Heavily sanded & refinished stock w/ dents and marks, plus cracks & chips in the lock and around sideplate screw areas. Sound lock. Dark, pitted bore. (01-24940/DS). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
