Cal. 20 ga brass shell. S# 1315. Bbl. 26" round w/ brass bead. Model 1879 receiver is enlarged for shot shell w/ special extractor. 1881 dated lower arch breech block. Springfield marked lockplate. Half length stock has partially visible cartouche on left side. Made for use by government hunters & scouts at western military outposts. Last known issue date was in Alaska in 1906. Total quantity of 1376 mfg. 1881-85. CONDITION: metal finish had faded to gray brown showing scattered pitting. Stock has dark weathered appearance w/ dents & handling marks having chips around buttplate & forearm areas. Dark pitted bore. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan.
