Cal. 20 Ga. S# 1408. Bbl. 26" unmarked possible replacement with tall brass bead. Case colored low arch breach block with special extractor is marked 1881 in slanting numerals. Proper model 1879 style receiver. Springfield marked lock. Replacement stock is a reshaped and thinned rifle stock. Left side has clear cartouche with 1885 date. Front of trigger guard and stock behind trigger guard are marked “A”. Numbered in their own series, a small quantity were issued to government hunters and scouts at western outposts until 1906. CONDITION: nicely restored gun. Bbl., lock and fittings retain 98% reblued finish. Action has lightly worn finish showing handling marks. Lock and top tang retain 90% restored case colors. Stock has good finish showing handling marks with small chips around tang and trigger plate. Sound mechanics. Bore shows circular rings that may be reamer marks. (01-21732/DS). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
