Cal. 45-70. S# 440514. Pistol style trapdoor converted from a rifle. Many conversions such as this were used by the movie industry starting in the 1950s as surplus trapdoors were readily available & inexpensive at the time. Bbl. shortened to 7" w/ rifling removed. Bead front sight. 1884 dated low arch breechblock & 1873 dated lock. Stock is fashioned from a cut-down rifle w/ added wood extension to form grip. Trigger guard is bent to match. CONDITION: blue finish is fading & becoming light. Stock shows heavy wear w/ scratches & marks. Lightly pitted bore. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22557/DS).
