REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 66. Bbl. 5" with brass bead front sight and screw slot in top strap serving as rear. Mfg. 1851 (about 100 units) with two triggers: the front rotates the cylinder when the hammer is fully cocked, then full pull continues to contact the rear trigger, which will fire the revolver. Correctly without any markings; back strap with added (stamped) "J. HOGAN." Center-mounted hammer and distinctive groove around cylinder in line with nipples. Rosewood grips are numbered "66." Some were fitted with a loading lever assembly; some were not. Originally blued or case colored with barrels of 4, 5, or 6 inches. Very similar to the Double Trigger Navy Model. CONDITION: poor to fair with some damage plus replacement screws and pins. The trigger guard is split across the rear attachment screw hole (rear piece included); the front aligns with slots in front of the trigger without means of securing. The loading lever, pivot, and grip screw appear to be replacements. The barrel retaining a pin appears to have been replaced. Cylinder and hammer rotation function, but it appears something should be added to limit the free rotation to preserve indexing. Only very faint traces of bluing remain, with an overall cleaned, gray patina. Good, solid grip, with marks mostly in the butt area. Poor bore with a dark, pitted appearance. (01-25053/NW). ANTIQUE. $400-700.
