FLINTLOCK MUSKET DATED 1814. Cal. .69. NSN. Bbl. 41 3/4". Bbl. is proofed on the left side, "P / (eagle) / V". Lock is marked, "US" in script over eagle over "SPRINGFIELD" in front of the cock & "1814" at the extreme rear of the lock plate. All iron furniture. Walnut stock with carved cheek piece distinctive to this model. Rear of stock is branded, "12 L.A COMPY." New ramrod. CONDITION: bbl. has been heavily cleaned but has reacquired a medium gray mottled finish. The bbl. has been welded & stretched from a point 17" from the muzzle. The lock has a cleaned gray finish with a replaced frizzen spring & screws. Lock is functional as reconverted. The second bbl. band is missing its spring. Pan has heavy file marks as does the front of the lock plate. Lock fits reasonably well as altered. Stock is cracked & broken at the rear bbl. band however, the bbl. band holds the stock together. The butt of the stock shows some losses & a bit of rot likely from dampness. Butt plate is original but may be a replacement. Fair bore. (01-21384/BF). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
