WITH BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. 44 1/4" round barrel affixed with three spring retained bands is marked "US" at rear and with "P" eagle head and "V" proofs at left side. Barrel does not look to be reconverted. Lock with chamfered flat plate having pointed tail is fitted with correct style cock, frizzen and feather spring. Internal inspection reveals matching assembly marks (a small "t") on all internal pieces, including pan and its mounting screw. Lock is marked "US" over an eagle at center and with "SPRINGFIELD" in an arch behind cock and "1806" vertically on tail. Walnut stock with short fluted comb has correct style iron furniture. Trigger guard with short point at front, buttplate dated 1806 and screwed on sling loops. A brass collection tag marked "M6" is attached to rear sling loop. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: musket comes with socket bayonet with 13" triangular blade which is unmarked and fits musket well. CONDITION: good as partially restored. Metal parts with old cleaned silver surfaces mixed about half and half with brown. Stock with old oil refinish shows some splitting and loss of wood behind lock. Original pan shows some file marks with refitting of new cock and frizzen. Dark rusted bore. Lock is operable. Button steel ramrod is present but short. Front sling loop missing. Bayonet shows overall cleaning to silver with brown splotches. (01-22762/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
