Cal. 69 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbl. 42". Model 1842 percussion musket mfg. by Springfield 1846. Lockplate is marked with a patriotic eagle above "US", with "SPRING/ FIELD/ 1846" marked vertically at the rear. Bbl. tang is marked "1846". Metal components are in-the-white. Wood stock is stamped with two clear and legible inspector cartouches on the left flat. Buttplate tang is marked "U.S." above "22". Ramrod is present. CONDITION: metal components exhibit oxidation overall. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand and locks in the half-cock and full-cock positions. Wood stock shows some scattered marks and impressions, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-25428/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
