Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 12", round with an octagon breech section. Semi-circular front sight with base only remaining with a 2-leaf sight on top tang. Lock is fitted with the Maynard self-priming mechanism. Stock is held by a single brass band. Other brass fittings include a trigger guard, buttcap, and nose cap. Iron backstrap has fittings for shoulder stock attachment. Stock is not present. Button-tipped iron swivel ramrod. Total of 4,021 mfg. 1855-57. CONDITION: cleaned metal shows heavy pitting. Primer feed cover appears to be a replacement. Stock has added finish over heavy wear and handling marks with a repaired break in the wrist and side plate areas. Lock will not hold in cocked position. Pitted bore with intact rifling. (01-25823/DS). ANTIQUE. $200-300.
