Cal. 50 CF. NSN. Mfg. by Springfield Armory on a royalty agreement with Remington. A total quantity 22,013 were produced 1870-1871. Bbl. 32 5/8" with bottom mounted bayonet lug. Barleycorn front sight and graduated leaf rear sight. Breech end of barrel has Navy anchor. Left side of breech has "P" firing proof over "H.B.R" inspectors initials. Left side of action American eagle over "USN / SPRINGFIELD / 1870". Top tang has 2 line Remington patent markings. 2 Band fastened walnut forearm with slotted and knurled tip iron cleaning rod. Straight grip walnut stock with musket buttplate. Left side of stock wrist has lightly visible cartouche. Top of stock comb forward of buttplate is stamped "199". CONDITION: metal finish has faded to a heavy brown patina. Stock and forearm have age darkened worn appearance with numerous dents and marks. Bore shows scattered pitting with largely intact rifling.
