RIFLE. Cal. 50 CF (50-70). NSN. Bbl. 36" rnd. Fixed front sight with graduated leaf rear sight. Rolling block locking action, hammer goes to half cock when breechblock is closed. Sling swivel on forward portion of trigger guard. Left side is marked "MODEL 1871". Right side has American eagle over "US/ SPRINGFIELD/ 1872". 2-band fastened walnut forearm and straight grip stock with iron fittings. Left ear has clear "ESA" cartouche. Right ear has indistinguishable marking in a square boxed. 2-stop slotted tip iron ramrod. Total quantity of 10,001 mfg. 1871-1872. CONDITION: metal has cleaned gray appearance showing general pitting. Sanded and refinished wood shows scratches and marks. Stock has small cracks and chips around the top tang and buttplate. Good bright bore. (01-27394/DS). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
