CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. S# 142463. Bbl. 22" rnd. with pinned blade front sight and carbine marked graduated leaf Model 1879 rear sight. Model 1873 marked breechblock with Springfield marked lock. Band fastened walnut carbine stock with saddle ring and bar on left side having iron fittings. Approx. 15,000 1879 carbines mfg. 1879-1885. CONDITION: bbl., action, and lock have dull faded blue finish showing scattered handling marks with spots of surface corrosion and light pitting. Fittings have a gray/brown faded appearance showing spots of pitting. Heavily sanded and refinished stock shows some heavy dents with chips around the top tang and trigger plate areas. Sound lock and action. Bore has worn rifling with consistent mild pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (01-27128/DS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
