TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 154302. Bbl. 32 5/8" w/ unique sliding triangular shaped combination ramrod bayonet. This scarce variation was made for trial by government troops is found in S# range 154000-158000. Blade front sight w/ Model 1879 rifle rear sight. Low arch case colored breech block. Springfield marked blued lock, hammer & 2 piece trigger guard w/ swivels. Smooth trigger. 2 Band fastened walnut stock w/ trapdoor buttplate. CONDITION: bbl., receiver, lock & bayonet retain over 90% lightly faded blue. Breech block retains over 90% nicely visible case colors. Stock has added protective coat of shellac over original finish showing scattered scratches & marks. Bright bore w/ sharp rifling retaining some residue of hardened grease. (01-19350/DS).
